Let’s start with some essential dog training tips to keep in mind before starting to look in the big question “train it yourself or send it to a dog obedience school?”:
• It has always to be fun:
Always remember that your dog must enjoy obeying you or it won’t simply do it, so never overwhelm or ask your dog to perform anything that he will detest. Frustrating your dog by being extra-commanding and strict to him is always a negative point. Try respecting dog's behavior and act accordingly at the initial stage. If you decide to send it to a Dog obedience training school, make sure they care about your dog well being, and that they will not torture it in the way.
• Reward and praise your dog for a good behavior:
This is a very important factor when training your dog. This will motivate your dog to follow the instructions appropriately and develop an amiable relationship with you.
• never punish or scold your dog under training:
A punishment will put in negative feelings into your dog. Try to praise him for a good behavior instead.
• Penalize your dog:
Make note that "Penalize" does not mean "punish" here. A "penalty" can be anything that your dog does not like. It may be a leash jerk, not moving when he's on leash so there's no walk or just ignoring him. This would make him feel guilty and behave properly.
• Remember that for training purposes, a Reward is what works best. A reward can be anything from a verbal praise to petting, giving food, a ball or anything that turns him on. Every dog is unique, so, you must take the time and effort to know your dog, understand what it likes and act accordingly. Trust us on this one; the time spent finding out what really turns it on will be well worth the effort.
